An independent social game studio born out of Calgary's tech community, dedicated to cartoon robot entertainment with zero real-money stakes.
BanffLake began in 2021 as a side project between two Calgary software engineers who loved classic arcade aesthetics and wanted to explore new forms of free entertainment. The concept was straightforward: build a social platform that feels as engaging as a real arcade cabinet but exists entirely online and costs nothing to play.
The cartoon robot theme grew organically. Early prototypes featured abstract geometric symbols, but the team kept gravitating toward robot characters — shiny chrome finishes, neon circuit lines, dramatic spark effects. By the time the first playable build was ready, the robots had become the identity of the platform.
MULTIPLIER CLIMB, our signature mechanic, was designed to reward consistency over luck. Rather than relying on a single fortunate outcome, the game celebrates streaks — the tension of keeping a winning chain alive is what makes every play session feel genuinely exciting.
Today BanffLake operates as a small independent studio from our workspace at 1256 Bow Valley Trail in Calgary, AB. We remain committed to producing entertainment that is transparent, free, and responsibly designed for adults 18 and over.

Builds the core platform and symbol rendering pipeline. Designed the obsidian-platinum SVG microstyle used across all six cartoon robot symbols.
Creates the cel-shaded robot aesthetic. Every symbol from Pixel Drone to BOOST Star passes through S. Laurent's comic-book sci-fi style guide before shipping.
